The development of mathematics education globally, is characterized by a shift in the center of education (learning) from the teacher to the student. The results of research indicate that put the student as the central in education will provide broad implications compared by put teacher as a central point of the process of transfer of knowledge. The problem in Indonesia in the development of mathematics education today, is how far the teachers are able to change attitudes and perceptions of mathematics as a science learned by teacher would be mathematics as a science that needs to be studied by the students. Alexander in Bourne (1994: 69) mentioned at least there are six factors that to be able influence a teacher's teaching style, that is: value (value), comprehension (theory), pragmatism, empirical, context and system of political. Therefore, in order to develop mathematics education toward better is needed to revitalization of education. The faunction of revitalization of education to put the important role of teachers to creat mathematics education more appropriate with the meaning of the truth of the teaching learning. Revitalization of mathematics education should be departed from the self-reflection and reflection of the teacher individually and reflection of factual conditions from the practice of learning. The reflection will be useful to know the positive aspects and weaknesses to employed as a input to determine the step or attitude about a new paradigm in education and to implement all of them to the real practice.
Based on the some paradigm of education, Ebbutt and Straker (1995: 10-63), given guidelines for the revitalization of mathematics education in the form of the basic assumptions that have implications for learning mathematics, that is:
1. Mathematics is the search activity patterns and relationships.
2. Mathematics is the creativity have a need of imagination, intuition, and discovery.
3. Mathematics is problem solving activities.
4. Mathematics is a tool to communicate.
5. Materials of mathematics in the form of facts, understanding, skills algorithms, reasoning skills, problem solving skills, investigative skills.
On the other hand Ebbut and Straker (1995: 60-75), gave his view that in order for the students' potential can be developed optimally so the teacher must know the characteristik of the student, that is: 1. The student will learn if acquire the motivation, 2. The students learn in its own way, 3. The Students learn independently and through collaboration, 4. The student need different contex and situation in the study.
In order to the teacher be able to realize the revitalization of education learning math requires creativity students will refers to recomendasi Cockroft Report (1982) as well as the elaboration of Ebbutt and Straker, A (1995), as follows a suggestion that might be useful for teachers in performing learning mathematics through three stages, that is: stage of teaching preparation, stages of learning, stage of evaluation.
